Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 Review: I am very happy with Vidya Balan’s return in the film ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’. But the question in my mind was whether it will be like the original ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’? Will Vidya be able to cast her magic as Manjulika again? Then I came to know that Madhuri Dixit is also in the film. That means the matter is going to be ‘double fun’. If ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ is being made with two great actresses, then Anees Bazmee is definitely going to do something amazing. Kartik Aryan’s fun is also there, wow! This was my expectation. What happened to that expectation, you will know while reading.
What is the story of the film?
The film begins from Raktghat of Bengal. In 1824, there used to be a princess here whose name was Manjulika. She was skilled in dance. Also, her weapon skills were unmatched. Manjulika has her eyes on the throne of her father Shubhrato Maharaj. But there is a person standing between her and the throne, without killing whom she cannot achieve anything. Manjulika, who had set out to usurp the throne, came up empty handed, but she did not accept defeat even after dying. Now she has come to take revenge and is thirsty for everyone’s blood.
It has been 200 years since this incident happened in Raktghat. Today, Ruhaan (Kartik Aryan) is fooling people by becoming Rooh Baba. Rooh, a fake baba, along with his disciples, gets people to forgive their mistakes by telling them that they are haunted by ghosts and by spraying Gangajal on them. In return, he extorts their valuables by calling them ‘cursed’. But this fake Rooh Baba does not know that soon he is going to meet a real ghost, who will make his life miserable.
This happens when Meera (Tripti Dimri) and her maternal uncle (Rajesh Sharma) come into Rooh’s life. Both of them ask him to come with them to Raktghat. Once the work is done, Rooh will be given one crore rupees. He does not know what the work is, but his greed is very big. So, Rooh Baba picked up his bag and set out to face Manjulika without knowing anything. When he came to the Maharaj’s palace and saw his condition, the ground slipped under his feet. Now will Rooh Baba be able to get Meera and her family rid of Manjulika and who is Manjulika actually and what is her true story? All this and much more has been mixed together to make a mess in the movie.
What was Anees Bazmee trying to do?
Giving hope to the audience and challenging their logic is not a good thing. Director Anees Bazmee is doing just that in ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’. In one scene of the movie, Rajesh Sharma, who plays Meera’s uncle, has as many loopholes in his vest as there are loopholes in the story written by writer Akash Kaushik.
The movie starts off well. You understand Manjulika’s story, her death and her becoming a ghost and it scares you too. Then comes Rooh Baba, whose hypocrisy makes you laugh. But as the movie progresses, you keep getting stuck in the maze. The first half of the movie keeps you hooked. The story is unfolding layer by layer and you keep wondering what will happen now, how will it happen.
Then comes the second half! Here, your hope and excitement, which are at their peak, get thwarted because the movie has left logic and fun behind. Now anything is happening in the movie. Now the question in anyone’s mind is not whether Manjulika is here or not, now the question is who is Manjulika? In the name of horror, you get to see the same old things in the film. In between this, some comedy has been sprinkled, which mostly misses. This is the time when the film has gone out of the hands of the director and there is no story left in it. Anything is happening on the screen and you are waiting for it to end so that you can go home.
How was the acting?
Talking about the performance, Kartik Aaryan in the role of Rooh Baba reminds us of Akshay Kumar. His body language and dialogue delivery are all like Akshay Kumar. As the film progresses, Kartik changes from Akshay to Kartik again. The rest of his work is fine. Vidya Balan and Madhuri Dixit have added a different color to the film. Their performance is quite good and what to say about the dance. Both the heroines have done justice to the roles given to them. Tripti Dimri has also worked in the film. It is difficult to say what her role is, why it is, how it is… Seeing it, it seems that she must have been told that you just create the atmosphere, people will understand themselves what is happening.
Many actors including Vijay Raj, Rajesh Sharma, Rajpal Yadav, Sanjay Mishra, Ashwini Kalsekar have played supporting roles in this film. The characters of Sanjay, Ashwini and Rajpal are the most irritating in the film. None of their actions make you laugh. We have seen all three stars in better comic roles than this. The film also has Screenpatti’s Chhote Miyan aka Arun Kushwaha. His role is limited to fainting on every occasion.
You will be shocked to see the climax of ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’. It is so boring. Overall, if you are planning to watch it, then go at your own risk.
